Your window looks out onto the starry sky
Hold your device up to the sky to observe and identify planets, stars and constellations through your phone screen. Enjoy Astrolapp’s highly sensitive and accurate Live mode and intuitive and engaging interface. (Note:
Live mode is only available on devices with a built-in compass.)
The stars are drawn according to their true colors and named after the International Astronomical Union. Optionally, the 88 official constellations are drawn with or without name labels. Use the powerful search function and let yourself be guided by an arrow to find any planet, star or constellation above your head. By tapping on any star or planet, Astrolapp highlights the path across the sky that the celestial body follows during the night (or day). Additionally, Astrolapp calculates the rising and setting times of any celestial body to the minute and displays current position data in tabular form on a separate sliding screen.
Astrolapp automatically detects your current location and uses it to calculate the starry sky as you see it. But if you want to know what the starry sky looks like on the other side of the world, just use the built-in map to select any other location.
Additionally, Astrolapp will show you the current sky by default. However, if you’re interested in what the sky will look like next month or want to plot planetary constellations during historical events decades or centuries ago, Astrolapp will get you there in no time. a few seconds. Watch the sky change, in rapid motion!
As an alternative to the live mode or for devices without a built-in compass, Astrolapp offers a star map mode. To switch between the two screen types, press the “3D” button. Essentially, both modes provide the same information and functionality as described above.
Star map mode: The interactive star map is like an astronomical clock
This representation visualizes the mechanics of the solar system and the movements of stars and constellations throughout the day and year. This was achieved by flat projection of the celestial sphere, as used in medieval astrolabes and astronomical clocks.
Astrolapp represents the celestial sphere as someone sitting at the north celestial pole sees it. From this perspective, the sun moves clockwise around the center of the chart, over the course of a day, parallel to the celestial equator, like on a 24-hour clock. The moon and planets move more or less one circle per day, depending on their own motions within the solar system.
